We offer a large selection of ceiling mount light fixtures from quality manufacturers like Kichler, Murray Feiss, and Sea Gull. There are two kinds of fixtures within the ceiling mount lighting category:

  • Flush Mount Lighting Fixtures directly mount to a ceiling; generally bowl shaped where heat is trapped inside the fixture. Therefore, lower bulb wattages are used since there is no space for the heat to exit.

  • Semi Flush Lighting Fixtures are also mounted to the ceiling; however, there is a gap between the fixture and the ceiling. These semi-flush lighting fixtures can handle higher bulb wattages because the heat generated from the bulb is able to exit through the space.

Light Bulb Installation:

Installing or changing out light bulbs is effortless for both types of ceiling mount fixtures. Semi-flush fixtures have a gap between the fixture and the ceiling. This allows you to reach the bulb sockets without taking the fixture apart. However, flush mounted fixtures requires removing the bowl, usually by unscrewing the center bolt, to access the bulb sockets.

Light Bulb Wattage:

In general, semi flush lighting fixtures are able to handle higher bulb wattages. The space between the bowl and the ceiling allows the heat to release. Flush mount lighting fixtures use lower bulb wattages because there is no space for the heat to exit.

Ceiling Mount Lighting Placement

Ceiling mount lighting fixtures are ideal for use in foyers, hallways, and bedrooms. They work well in entry foyers to welcome guests to your house. Flush mounts are preferred on lower ceilings while semi flush lights are ideal on medium to high ceilings. These fixtures are also great in hallways as a substitute for recessed lighting. In hallways, light fixtures should be used every 8 to 10 feet to ensure a full range of coverage.
